I must admit the last time I wore this combination was in March of 2009. It was to the screening of a movie that I did the costumes and make-up for. But when I wore this outfit, I hid most of what I was wearing underneath my winter coat. I wasn't brave enough yet for everyone to see my 1950s style outfit. Now, I feel like myself in vintage style clothing. I don't feel like I need to hid my outfits under coats anymore. Why look, I'm wearing a 50s petticoat too with this outfit! I would have to say, blogging about my outfits over the past two years has helped me wear what I truly want to wear. It has also help me build up my confidence - fashion wise. It also helps that I follow people like, Casey and Amber {two of my favorite people in the blogging world} who dress like this all the time.
navy blue poodle circle skirt made by me/ mustard yellow blouse made by me/ black belt came with a dress {Liz Claiborne}/ grey knee highs target/ black pumps famous footwear/ sense & sensibility patterns umbrella from Mrs. Jennie Chancey
Sewing Information::
Skirt Pattern: Simplicity #5403 (you can still buy this pattern)
Fabric: Cotton broadcloth (poodle: felt / The leash: string of plastic beads from Joann Fabrics)
::Notes::
I used snaps to close up the side {no, zipper on this skirt. I didn't enjoy putting in zippers when I made this skirt. But once I took a class on putting in zippers I didn't fear them anymore.}
Blouse Pattern: Vintage Simplicity 4757 {1954}
Fabric: Vintage fabric that was given to me. I have no clue to the date of the fabric. Any ideas anyone? As I would love to know how old the fabric is.
::Notes::
I could have added more buttons down the front. There are only three. Um, yes. It was fine when I first wore the blouse. But, um, when it was washed it wasn't so good anymore. So when ever I wear the blouse I add safety pins to help close the blouse up.
See this fabric? It is the fabric for my circle skirt that I'm making right now. When I bought the fabric in L.A. I didn't know what I was going to use it for. It turned out it was perfect for a circle skirt. I can't wait to style the skirt when it is done. *smiles*
I also want to say hello to any new readers from Pink Lemonade {The Blog}. For those who don't know, I did a guest post on there today. Go check it out here.
