How Pinteresting Wednesday - Dream Wedding

google

I used to never have an idea on what my "dream" wedding would look like. I had no clue. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. Until Pinterest came around and I started repinning wedding pictures, did my "dream" wedding come about into being. Here are some ideas that I would like to incorporate into my someday wedding.

Vintage themed engagement pictures....

These wedding invitations are adorable....

I simply adore mix-matched vintage styled bridesmaid dresses....

Something different for the groom. He wears a key on his boutonnière and the Bride has the lock the key fits on her bouquet.

I adore this wedding dress....

This is cute too though....

This is cute beyond words for the ring bearer....

I would also like a Bible bearer....

Right now I adore peonies for my bouquet.....

I love the idea of having the reception in an old barn....

Got to have lemonade & serve all cold drinks in mason jars....

And old-fashioned coke bottles {or dr. pepper, root beer}....

vintage servers that don't match...

mismatch everything....

What I Wore - Inspired by Marie from Marie Loves...

Grey T-Shirt Hand-me-down from Mrs. Amber Apple {F21}// Navy Blue Camisole J.C.Penny// Black Blazer F21// Owl Necklace F21// Bow Post Earrings F21// Black Flats Payless Shoes// Olive Green Skirt Hand-me-down from Mrs. Amber Apple {Banana Republic}// Green Tights J.C.Penny// Cat Eyed Sunnies Dana Buchman for Kohl's
When I tried on this outfit combination Tuesday night, I immediately thought of Marie of Marie Loves... and how she would wear an outfit like this. The basic color combination is so very her. {Marie, I love your outfits and I'm so glad you are back blogging!} In fact, since we've been back home I've been wearing more basic colors together with just a touch of whimsy & pop of color. I go through moods. Also my surroundings affect my outfits - so does the weather & how I feel.

I promised I would share what I bought at the antique mall today. So without further ado, what I bought.
   On the bottom left we have a vintage handbag in navy blue {I think it is from the 50s/60s}. While in the middle we have a black Kate Spade purse from either the late 90s or early 2000s {I'm really excited about this purchase, as one of my goals for 2012 was to buy a Kate Spade purse. And here I found one for $11}. The bottom right purse is a lovely brown shade vintage handbag {50s/60s?} in some kind of print, or type of leather or something. I don't know much about vintage purses at all, and there are no markings in any of the vintage bags.
Here we have three magazines from 1940. The two in the back are LOOK magazine and the front one is a movie magazine called, Photoplay. I'm going to do scans of these magazines sometime next year, along with tons of other magazines I own - really I own stacks.

My first vintage beauty related products

After taking several vintage hair & makeup classes at Costume College this year {I'm still slowly working on the post. There is a lot of information to share.}. I've become interested in doing more on creating a more vintage look. So I've been entering vintage beauty related giveaways, hoping to win some great products. And guess what? I have. I'm so happy. *smile* I just want to share what vintage beauty products I've tried, and what I think about them. I am by no means, bragging {just want to get that out there}.

The first thing I won was back in August. It was for Besame Cosmetics Crimson Cream Rouge. You can wear it either on your lips, or on your checks. I've worn it both ways. You can see me wearing it on my checks in this post. I love this product. The color is very pigmented. Packaging is very vintage, making it perfect to be displayed on your vanity, if you have one that is. Another reason I love Besame, is that they use natural ingredients. Which is great for me, as I have sensitive skin. And no, I didn't react to the rouge. Yay! I can't wait to try more of their products.

It appears that they no longer sell this compact.
Another thing I won came all the way from England. {side note: I love receiving things through the royal mail. There is something so exciting about it.} It was a Stratton compact from VanRoe Powder Compacts. I love it. My mom loves it. We all love it. The compact is well made and feels oh, so, glamorous holding it. It comes in really cute packaging {which is always important}. And for safe keeping, you get to store your compact in a brown velvet bag. How perfectly regal.

What vintage beauty related products have you tried and like?

Also, I'm guest blogging over at Elegant Musings today. Go check it out!

What I Wore - 1950s Poodle Skirt

After working on my circle skirt for Casey's sew along these past two days {it just needs to be hemmed!}. I've been in a very 1950s mood. What I really wanted to wear today was my only true vintage dress. But sadly, this spring it became too small for me to wear. Meaning the dress just sits in my closet. So instead I wore my poodle skirt and 50s blouse that I made back in late February of 2009.

I must admit the last time I wore this combination was in March of 2009. It was to the screening of a movie that I did the costumes and make-up for. But when I wore this outfit, I hid most of what I was wearing underneath my winter coat. I wasn't brave enough yet for everyone to see my 1950s style outfit. Now, I feel like myself in vintage style clothing. I don't feel like I need to hid my outfits under coats anymore. Why look, I'm wearing a 50s petticoat too with this outfit! I would have to say, blogging about my outfits over the past two years has helped me wear what I truly want to wear. It has also help me build up my confidence - fashion wise. It also helps that I follow people like, Casey and Amber {two of my favorite people in the blogging world} who dress like this all the time.

navy blue poodle circle skirt made by me/ mustard yellow blouse made by me/ black belt came with a dress {Liz Claiborne}/ grey knee highs target/ black pumps famous footwear/ sense & sensibility patterns umbrella from       Mrs. Jennie Chancey

Sewing Information::

Skirt Pattern: Simplicity #5403 (you can still buy this pattern)
Fabric: Cotton broadcloth (poodle: felt / The leash: string of plastic beads from Joann Fabrics)

::Notes::
   I used snaps to close up the side {no, zipper on this skirt. I didn't enjoy putting in zippers when I made this skirt. But once I took a class on putting in zippers I didn't fear them anymore.}

Blouse Pattern: Vintage Simplicity 4757 {1954}
Fabric: Vintage fabric that was given to me. I have no clue to the date of the fabric. Any ideas anyone? As I would love to know how old the fabric is.

::Notes::
  I could have added more buttons down the front. There are only three. Um, yes. It was fine when I first wore the blouse. But, um, when it was washed it wasn't so good anymore. So when ever I wear the blouse I add safety pins to help close the blouse up.

See this fabric? It is the fabric for my circle skirt that I'm making right now. When I bought the fabric in L.A. I didn't know what I was going to use it for. It turned out it was perfect for a circle skirt. I can't wait to style the skirt when it is done. *smiles*

I also want to say hello to any new readers from Pink Lemonade {The Blog}. For those who don't know, I did a guest post on there today. Go check it out here.

What I Wore - 1938 Formal Meets 2011

Last night I was looking for something different to wear today. In my refashion pile I saw this 1938 formal I made back in 2008. It was made for a family outing to see the Broadway play, The Lion King at a theater that was built back in the 20s, or 30s. I wanted a vintage dress, but it also had to be cheap. Like not spend any money on the dress. Enter this dress, the whole dress was made out of supplies in my stash. What may, or may not surprise you is.....this dress is made out of cotton broadcloth from Joann Fabrics. Yes, broadcloth. But in the dim lights of the theater you couldn't tell.

I only wore this dress that one time. It didn't fit me on top right. {even though the pattern size said this dress was way too small for me. I still had to take the dress in. crazy.} On a whim last night, I tried the dress one. And guess what? It fits me like a dream now. Yay! But I didn't want to wear this as a dress today. So I threw on a chunky sweater that was given to us as handy-me downs. It totally brought the outfit to 2011. I love it! I now had the look of a maxi skirt. Perfect for the current fall trends.

 burgundy dress made by me {vintage 1938 pattern}/ blue sweater free people {hand-me down}/ owl ring kohl's/ tan boots target/ gold leaf earrings forever 21

What is something from your closet that you can wear in a different way?

1939/1940 Fall/Winter Sears & Roebuck Catalog

I'm so excited to share with y'all my find on Etsy. A 1939/1940 Fall/Winter Sears & Roebuck Catalog! There is so much information packed into this thick catalog. Books, clothing, sewing supplies, beauty products, and so much more. It is simply glorious! Here is just a sneak peak into the catalog. And I may, or may not have gone overboard on the pictures. ;-) But I tell you, this is just a small fraction of the catalog.

Darling colorful winter coats. I'll take either E or F {the two on the right}.

Love the suit on the right! I even bought some suiting fabric like that in LA last month. Hmm...ideas.

Winter coats back then were so glamorous.

More lovely suits.

Could these dresses and jackets just pop into my closet, please?

Wouldn't mind owning a few of these skirts.

One of the things I loved most about browsing through this catalog is the colors. I never imagined them wearing these bright colors. Don't know why. But it never crossed my mind that they would. I always thought of the era in more muted tones.

Brightly colored blouses for between $1.98 - $1.00.

L.o.v.e these cardigans! Very classic and colorful.

These are pretty too. I like the mustered color one on the bottom left-side corner.

Hats! Hats! Hats!

More glorious hats!

May I have the, Deanna Durbin styled hat, please?

 Hair supplies. Do you see the "Movie Wave" set? It says, "The 'Hair-Dos' of the stars right at your fingertips." I wonder if it came with a booklet on how to do your stars favorite hairstyle?

 Beauty supplies....

 More beauty supplies....

 Housecoats.

 Lovely boots. The ones on top remind me of boots you can buy today.

 Adorable booties. I adore the fur trimmed ones.

 These plaid dresses for girls are so cute!

 I wouldn't mind having view E of the juniors coats. So cute! Her headscarf is adorable too.

Fun colorful, woolens that you can buy.

 Velvet and corduroy colors you can buy.

 Rayon's.....

 Cotton flannels....

 Cottons....

Look! A Mickey Mouse watch.

Which are your favorites? Also, what pages would you like to see next?
