One of the best books on the subject is Vintage Hairstyling, and it's one of the cheeper options out there. I received this book for Christmas and love it!!
Besides watching these video tutorials, and reading books on the subject. The next best thing is to study old magazines, watch old movies & TV shows, and look at old photographs. Just experiment with your hair by coping what you see! That's what I've been doing for years.
