Gone on Vacation

We will be gone on vacation until around Easter Sunday to Virginia. Meaning their will be no posts for a little over a week. Until then we bid goodbye.

But before we go, I have a quick tag to do. Yesterday I was tagged by, Blue Satin Sashes (satinsashes.tumblr.com).

I have to answer her eight questions,
and then write my own eight questions and tag people to answer them.

1. What do you imagine being, other than your plain 'ol everyday self? Not sure. I would like to develop my creative side more through painting, film making, and do more historical costumes.

2. Is there something you've tried before...a dare, a certain food, a hard project,
anything...that you would never dream of doing again? Tofu. I have a strong dislike for that awful stuff.

3. Is there a book that you've read at least five times from beginning to end? There are several books in-fact. The Bible. Ben-Hur, I've read about eight times. If you haven't read it yet, you must read it this summer!!! It is so good and many lessons in it. Several books from the Five Little Pepper series. Pollyanna Grows Up. Anne of Green Gables & Anne of Avonlea.

4. Do you have a special little weakness...that you just can't live without, and that gives you much happiness when obtained? [chocolate, shoes, something like that.] My macbook, cowgirl boots from Target, ipod, and Dove chocolate.

5. Do you prefer fast food or pizza? PIZZA!!!!

6. Have you ever gotten "dressed up" in a historical costume? for what occasion? Yes, I have on several occasions. I wore costumes almost everyday to Vision Forum's Jamestown 400 and everyday to their Reformation 500.

7. Have you ever stayed up ALL night? Yes, I did once. Did any of you do the Jamestown 400 treasure hunt? Well, to qualify as part of the final 100 I stayed up until 5AM. Went to sleep and woke up wide awake at 8AM. I don't know how I did that.

8. Do you prefer men singers or women singers? Soprano, mezzos/baritones, tenors? I tend to prefer men singers. Not sure what type. But I like Roy Rogers, Josh Groban, Sons of the Pioneers, etc.....

The Christmas Quiz

1. What is your one favorite dish to see on the table at Christmas dinner? 
Strawberry Pretzel Jello Salad. So good.

2. Do you have a Nativity scene or a creche? How many pieces does it have? 
We use to have a Nativity scene. But it broke. How sad. 

3. What is your favorite Christmas movie? 
I have three. It's a Wonderful Life, the Home Alone series, and Charlie Brown Christmas. 

4. If you and your family could spend this Christmas in another country, where would you go?
I would love to visit Bethlehem for Christmas. Though, Germany would be fun too!   

5. Does your grandmother usually knit you something for Christmas, or does she give you something different -- say, a Wii?
I don't have a Grandmother. 

6. Have you ever gone out of the house wearing a reindeer headband? What about a Santa hat?
Not that I can remember. 

7. Do you usually make or buy your Christmas gifts?
Buy. Though sometimes I will do both. :)

8. When do you set up your Christmas decorations? When do you take them down?
We put them up the day after Thanksgiving. Then take them down New Years day. 

9. What kind of activities does your church usually have at Christmas?
We have a Christmas program the weekend, or Sunday evening before Christmas. 

10. Did you ever believe in Santa Claus as a child?
No, not really. 

11. Which of the Gospels gives your favorite account of the Christmas story?
Luke. 

12. Have you ever acted in a Christmas pageant? What part did you play?
Once our family put on a Christmas play. I was Mary. 

13. Do you buy Christmas presents for your pets?
Yes, we did when we had a yellow lab. 

14. What is your favorite Christmas tradition?
The Annual Sibling Christmas Eve Campout.

1. If you could choose one fictional character (book or movie) to sit down and chat with, who would it be?


What a hard question. Maybe Sherlock Holmes, as I love mysteries and trying to think like Holmes to solve things. =) I would just love to ask him questions! 


2. What is your favorite music group or singer?


I'm more of a soundtrack girl. =) I do like Heather McCready, Charlie Zahm, Roy Rogers, and Deanna Durbin. And for Christmas music, as Christmas is coming up,  Amy Grant, Faith Hill, and Josh Groban. 


3. What is your favorite meal/dish/food?


I love chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn/ or green beans for dinner. Yum. 


4. What's your favorite pair of shoes?


Either my black pumps, or cowgirl boots. 


5. What's your favorite hymn?


This is My Father's World


6. Milk chocolate or white chocolate or dark chocolate? Which is your favorite?


Milk Chocolate!!! I use to like white chocolate best, but now I can't stand it! I also didn't use to like dark chocolate, but now I love the stuff!! =D


7. Did you ever love to play with paper dolls? If so, is there a certain time period (not when they were made but what time period their, oh well portraying or something on that line) that dominates your collection?


Yes, I have played with paper dolls! My collection is made up of mostly American Civil War (War Between the States) paper dolls and the American Girl paper dolls. Did any of you have the American Girl paper doll computer program? I had it growing up and would design tons of clothing for my paper dolls. :)

Rebecca of Sewing in the Past tagged me. Thank you, Rebecca! =) I'm supposed to answer her eight questions. Then write my own set of eight questions for eight bloggers to answer. Sounds fun.  


1. what time period would you travel back to? (why?)


Umm. Probably the 1940s. I love the clothing, cars, movies, well, everything. I think it would be interesting to be a girl during WWII. 
 
2. what five things make you extremely happy?


Jesus. Family. Sewing. Traveling. Food. 

3. you find out your great-uncle twice removed on your mother's side died and left you something huge. you arrive and you discover it is a roll-down desk. what is your reaction? 


WOW! I can be a newswoman like in My Girl Friday. Or try to solve a mystery like in an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show.   

4. have you ever met a celebrity? been somewhere famous? 


Depends on what kind of celebrity you mean. In the Hollywood & music world. No. But, I have met authors - Jasmine Baucham & the Botkin Sisters. In the sewing world - Jennie Chancey & the Long Ladies.  

5. your favorite recipe, please?


My chocolate chip cookie recipe. 

6. what's an obscure movie that nobody has probably ever seen that you really like...?

Don't really know. Oh, maybe the 1940 Pride & Prejudice! That is like one of my favorite versions of P&P. 

7. something you want really, extremely, exceedingly, terribly bad.



A trip to Europe. 

8. a dream that you wish to come true...occur...? (not necessarily a "nighttime" dream...like a "daydream" dream)


To have a bedroom up in an attic. I can see the room all pictured in my mind - it is so pretty. =)

An Award!

We have been given a blog award and tag by Erin at High Heels and Pencil Skirts (love that blog name).

First off, the "One Lovely Blog Award," and we will pass on the award to anyone who has not received this award yet. =)

Now for the "Beautiful Blogger Award" I am to post seven random things about myself. =)

1. I have been sewing historical costumes since 2006.
2. While I have been sewing modern clothing since 2007, or '08.
3. My mom taught me the basics of sewing and how to use a sewing machine.
4. I taught myself to sew clothing & costumes by reading books, and researching the internet.
5. I was born in Long Beach, CA.
6. I have lived in four states and between 10-12 houses/condos/apartments in my life so far.
7. I love to travel!!

I have been given this blog award by Caroline of Standing in the Sunlight. Thanks Caroline! I am to tell you all seven random things about me, then tag seven other bloggers.

1. I have read only one Jane Austen book and that was Pride & Prejudice.
2. My favorite Elizabeth Gaskell film is the BBC North & South (2004).
3. My favorite Narnian is Reepicheep! I loved him in Prince Caspian and can't wait to see him in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. But guess what?!? I have a fear of mice. LOL!
4. I have a weakness for anything that has polka-dots on it.
5. We use to have a dog named Braveheart (he was a yellow lab). He was named after William Wallace. But we all said, "We should have called him, Chickenheart. For he is such a chicken." You see, he was not a brave dog at all. He was scared of mice, vole's, and stairs.   
6. My favorite summer sport is Baseball. My favorite team is the Detroit Tigers.
7. While my two favorite winter sports are Hockey and Ice-skating. =)

1. I have a fear of Aquariums. Or any tanks that are full of water that surround me. 

2. I also have a fear of Snakes. And guess what!?!? I saw my first wild one in South Carolina, it was a black snake. Lets just say, I wanted to get out of that area as fast as I could. =)

3. My favorite animals are on the same food chain. How sad. They are Killer Whales, Dolphins, Seal Lions, and Penguins.  

4. I enjoy writing/telling children's stories (picture book type).

5. I love saving things! May that be stuff from trips, fabric, buttons, just about anything. It was really bad, when I was younger I would save candy wrappers and every single scrap of paper I wrote on. I'm now able to through things away.  ;-) But sometimes that is hard to do, for everything has a memory for me.

13: What is your favorite book? WHAT A QUESTION FOR ME! I have so many favorites! I will go with....The Bible. :)

15: If you had to eat one type of food for two weeks, what would that food be?If I wasn't gluten-free right now, I would say pizza. Now, Almond Flour Flapjacks or Almond Flour Chocolate Chip Cookies. They are the BEST!

17: If you woke up and discovered that you had turned into Miley Cyrus for the day, what would you do (note, I am NOT a fan)? I don't really know who Miley Cyrus is! :P I guess take my family to Walt Disney World.
